Tottenham chasing Axel Disasi

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi, according to a report from Marca (via Sport Witness).

The lowdown: Hot prospect

Signed by Reims for €15m (£13m) in 2020 (Transfermarkt), the Frenchman has so far spent his entire career in his homeland and is enjoying an upwards career trajectory.

Previously linked with a move to Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal, Disasi has gone from strength to strength in Ligue 1 and has now amassed 92 appearances in the French top flight.

As Spurs manager Antonio Conte looks to add additional centre-back options to Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Davinson Sanchez, the 24-year-old could be on his radar…

The latest: Spurs ‘interested’ in Disasi

As per Marca, translated by Sport Witness, Tottenham are ‘interested’ in signing Disasi this summer.

It is claimed that Spurs have ‘been after’ the former France under-20 starlet for a prolonged period and could hold an advantage over fellow suitors Atletico Madrid in their pursuit.

The Lilywhites can muster an ‘important financial effort’ to sign the man praised for his by journalist Eduardo Hagn ‘insane strength and power’, due to Arletico needing to sell numerous players this summer.

The verdict: Smart signing

Seemingly a player reaching his peak, snapping up Disasi would be a brilliant piece of business from Fabio Paratici, particularly with Conte craving improvements in the defence having conceded 40 goals in the Premier League last term, the most of the top-four finishers.

During 2021/22, the Frenchman – who can also play at full-back and has operated as a makeshift centre-forward previously – earned a 6.90 Sofascore rating, with 1.3 tackles and 2.3 clearances made per Ligue 1 outing and a 93% passing accuracy in his own half of the pitch.

Bearing a close stylistic likeness to Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo, Manchester United captain Harry Maguire and heavily-linked Villarreal defender Pau Torres (FBRef), Disasi would appear to be the ideal candidate for Conte in the grander scheme of things in terms of budget as the Italian looks to strengthen the entire Tottenham squad.

Manchester United make Eriksen offer

Manchester United have reportedly submitted a contract offer to Christian Eriksen and the Danish midfielder could potentially form a superb partnership with Frenkie de Jong in Erik ten Hag’s side next season.

What’s the word?

According to The Athletic, United have made an offer to the 30-year-old, who is available on a free transfer as his contract with Brentford is set to expire at the end of this month.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man returned to action with the Bees last season after signing a six-month contract in January and helped Thomas Frank’s side to a 13th-placed finish with one goal and four assists in 11 appearances, but it appears as if he is targeting a side playing European football next season.

Eriksen said: “I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision.

“I would love to play Champions League football again. I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me.”

Imagine him and De Jong

Although United can’t offer Champions League football after finishing sixth last season, they still have impressive pulling power and new boss Ten Hag would surely appreciate a player of Eriksen’s obvious quality in midfield.

The Athletic suggest that De Jong is still the Old Trafford outfit’s top midfield priority this summer, with the Red Devils hoping to take advantage of Barcelona’s dire financial straits in order to bring him to England.

If they were to convince De Jong and the “world-class” Eriksen to join ahead of next season, then Ten Hag would have two of the best passers in world football at his disposal.

Last season saw the Dutch midfielder average a 91.3% pass accuracy in La Liga, which was the seventh-best of any player in Spain’s top flight, while Eriksen’s 2.7 key passes per game average in the Premier League was only bettered by Kevin De Bruyne and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Goalscoring was a real issue at times for United last season, as they managed just 57 in the Premier League, and if Ten Hag could add Eriksen and De Jong’s creativity alongside Bruno Fernandes’ obvious qualities in attack, they would surely be much more potent going forward.

Therefore, United fans will be hoping that Eriksen accepts the club’s offer and forms a superb partnership alongside fellow former Ajax man De Jong in Ten Hag’s midfield next season.

Williams again linked with Liverpool exit

Nottingham Forest are still trying to seal the signing of Liverpool youngster Neco Williams, according to BBC journalist Natalie Jackson.

The Lowdown: Williams expected to leave Liverpool

The 21-year-old looks likely to leave Anfield on a permanent basis this summer following the arrival of Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen earlier this month as right-back cover for stalwart Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Williams’ playing time is set to be very limited at Liverpool, and it was for that very reason that he was sent out on loan to Fulham for the second half of the 2021/22 campaign, a decision that his national team coach Robert Page described as “brave” by the youngster.

Forest have been strongly linked with a move for the 21-cap Wales international recently, and it looks as though they could snap him up imminently.

The Latest: Forest working on Williams deal

Taking on Twitter on Saturday, Jackson claimed that the newly-promoted Premier League club are making a significant effort to sign Williams from Liverpool.

She said that Steve Cooper’s Forest are “doing everything they can to sign Liverpool defender Neco Williams” over the coming days.

[freshpress-quiz id=“398089″]

The Verdict: Ideal summer move

This would be a perfect summer move for Williams, allowing him to be a regular for a Premier League team ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

While Liverpool is arguably a level too high for him, given his sparsity of game-time, Forest could be an ideal destination, playing a rich brand of attacking football which allows their full-backs to get forward, as Djed Spence showed last season by chipping in with six goal contributions and averaging one key pass per game.

[freshpress-poll id=“399042″]

There is no reason why Williams can’t blossom into a formidable player at the City Ground, and it would benefit all parties for the transfer to be completed as soon as possible.

Spurs: Llorens drops Clement Lenglet update

Moises Llorens has dropped an update on the future of reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Clement Lenglet.

What’s the latest?

In a recent post on Twitter, the ESPN journalist revealed that, following numerous reports linking Spurs with a move for the Barcelona centre-back, Antonio Conte is indeed interested in a loan deal for the 27-year-old in the summer transfer window.

The Spaniard went on to suggest that the two clubs will continue talks concerning the France international’s proposed switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming days, although it is unclear as to whether the defender will be willing to leave Camp Nou this summer.

In his tweet, Llorens said: “Tottenham value Lenglet on loan. Conte wants to reinforce his defence and the Frenchman is a candidate, although Lenglet doubts. There will be talk in the next days between the two. Go to the World Cup, the player’s dream.”

Conte will be buzzing

With it being reported that one of Conte’s priority targets in the summer transfer window is the signing of a new left-footed centre-back, Llorens’ claim that Fabio Paratici is set to continue talks over a deal to bring Lenglet to north London in the coming days is sure to have left the 52-year-old buzzing.

While it is true that the £26m-rated Frenchman is not exactly a long-term solution in the position, especially when compared to the potential signing of Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni – who was reported to be the Italian’s first-choice this summer – it is undeniable that the 27-year-old would still very much meet Conte’s requirements.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Indeed, according to FBRef, the £170k-per-week left-footer ranks in the top 1% of centre-backs in Europe’s big five leagues for passes attempted per 90, in addition to the top 1% for progressive passes, and progressive carries, the top 18% for passes completed and the top 6% for assists over the last 365 days.

The defender also ranks in the top 15% for pressures per 90, as well as the top 39% for tackles and the top 43% for aerial duels won over the past 12 months.

As such, should Lenglet be able to continue this output following a potential summer switch to Spurs, it would very much appear as if the former Sevilla defender would make an excellent addition to Conte’s current options at the back. We believe that Llorens’ latest update is undoubtedly good news for the Italian manager and Tottenham.

Rangers close in on new signing

Rangers’ move for Everton starlet Cameron Bell is now at an advanced stage, according to Football Insider.

The lowdown

Rangers haven’t been particularly active so far in the summer transfer market. The only first-team addition they’ve made up to this point is centre-back John Souttar, and that deal was lined up back in January when he signed a pre-contract agreement.

And, according to Transfermarkt, they haven’t brought in any new players for the B-team yet either. Bell, a 16-year-old Scotsman, plays as a defender for Everton at youth level, and looks like he’s about to change that.

The latest

FI revealed the extent of Rangers’ progress on Monday morning after speaking to club sources.

They’re now in ‘advanced talks’ over the prospective signing, and they’re said to be increasingly confident of reaching an agreement.

The verdict

How excited should Rangers fans be? Well, FI describe Bell as a ‘sensation’, suggesting he’s been making waves as a teenager. In September 2021, he was called up to the Scotland Under-17 squad at the age of just 15. That suggests he’s too good for his own age bracket, with his development accelerated.

Bell would make his debut for Brian McLaughlin’s side in a 1-1 friendly draw with Wales, playing 62 minutes.

Journalist Lewis Bower says that Liverpool took Bell on trial at the end of last year, so he’s clearly attracted plenty of elite attention.

And based on a report from The Liverpool Echo in 2016, Bell is a defender who’s also capable of scoring spectacular goals. He fired in a ‘net rippling screamer’ that made into an academy compilation.

Rangers might feel as if they are giving a Premier League club a taste of their own medicine. After all, they’ve lost their own rising star, striker Rory Wilson, to Aston Villa in recent weeks.

Liverpool very interested in Bellingham

While a move this summer is seemingly not on the cards, it seems as if Jude Bellingham signing for Liverpool next summer is definitely on the cards, with the Reds said to be very interested in signing the Borussia Dortmund wonderkid.

What’s the word?

Liverpool are understood to be keen on strengthening their central midfield options but are willing to wait another season to make a move for Bellingham, who has established himself as one of the top young talents in world football during his spell with the Bundesliga side.

According to the Athletic’s Liverpool correspondent James Pearce, Liverpool are “very interested” in signing the 19-year-old next summer. He wrote:

“Very interested. The England midfielder is a class act and it’s hard to believe he’s only just turned 19. However, he won’t be leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer. Having already sold Erling Haaland to Manchester City, the Bundesliga club don’t intend to lose another star name in the same window.

“There will be serious competition for Bellingham’s signature in 2023. Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United are also in the race, with reports in Germany this week suggesting it would take €120 million (£103 million) to sign him. Bellingham doesn’t have a release clause and has three years left on his contract.

“Liverpool will certainly be in the conversation and it helps that Bellingham has a good relationship with captain Jordan Henderson from their time together with England.”

Supporters will love it

Bellingham is undoubtedly going to have a long and very successful career, and Liverpool fans will be hoping it is for them at Anfield.

Since signing for Dortmund from Birmingham City, the midfielder has gone on to make 89 appearances for the German side, contributing ten goals and 18 assists.

He also already has 15 England caps to his name, despite only turning 19 last week, so it is clear that he has a huge amount of potential.

Last season saw Bellingham make 32 appearances for Dortmund in the Bundesliga, in which he contributed three goals and eight assists, averaging an impressive 7.12 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

This was enough to rank him as the third-best performer at the club, which emphasises just how important a player he is for them despite his age, and there is little to suggest that he wouldn’t become a superstar at Liverpool.

Therefore, Liverpool fans will certainly be delighted to hear that their club will be amongst the front-runners to sign the wonderkid next summer.

Rangers transfer news: Matondo & Fulgini

Ibrox insider The 4th Official has revealed that Glasgow Rangers are now ‘confident’ of securing a double swoop for Angelo Fulgini and Rabbi Matondo ‘soon’.

The Lowdown: Busy week…

It has been a busy week for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side after they quickly secured the signing of Tom Lawrence on a free transfer after his contract at Derby County expired.

They face English Championship outfit Sunderland in a pre-season friendly tonight, as Van Bronckhorst gets a first look at the squad he has available to him and can decide whether he wants to add to it or trim it ahead of the new Premiership season.

The Latest: Double signing?

Taking to Twitter, The 4th Official has revealed that Rangers are now ‘confident’ that they can secure the signings of Fulgini and Matondo ‘soon’, with ‘talks’ going on for the latter for ‘some time’.

The Ibrox insider tweeted on Saturday afternoon: “Rangers confident that they will get both the Angelo Fulgini & Rabbi Matondo deal over the line soon. The source I spoke with is confident Rangers will soon come to an agreement for Matondo. Talks going on for some time now before news leaked yesterday.”

The Verdict: Exciting

These are certainly exciting times for the Ibrox faithful, as the Gers could secure three new signings in the space of just a few days.

Matondo is a Wales international like Lawrence and impressed on loan at Cercle Brugge from Schalke 04 last term, scoring 10 goals and supplying two assists in total over all competitions, mainly operating from out wide (Transfermarkt).

Fulgini would be coming from a major European top-flight in Ligue 1, having scored five times and supplied four assists for Angers from midfield (Transfermarkt).

On that evidence, both players would certainly improve Van Bronckhorst’s squad if they come to Glasgow.

Newcastle have growing Tielemans interest

An update has emerged on Newcastle United and their pursuit of Youri Tielemans in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that PIF are keen on the gem and are one of a number of teams taking a closer look at the Belgium international, who is said to be interested in leaving the King Power ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

He Tweeted: “Tielemans’ preference remains to leave this window. Still no formal bids despite growing interest from a number of clubs, including Man United and Newcastle. For now, #AFC focusing on Oleksandr Zinchenko, who can play in midfield. Personal terms expected to be agreed next week.”

The reporter added: “Leicester still anticipating offers between £25-30m before window shuts, and Tielemans would like to move. Ten Hag is a big fan. Tielemans was less convinced when Rangnick made enquiries in January but may reconsider under new boss. Far easier negotiation than with De Jong, too.”

Imagine him & Bruno Guimaraes

If Newcastle can strike a deal to sign the former Monaco man, He can form an exciting pairing with current Toon gem Guimaraes.

Journalist Jaquob Crooke previously dubbed the Belgian “divine” and his statistics in the Premier League in recent seasons suggest that he deserves to be praised.

Since moving to England in January 2019, Tielemans has never averaged a SofaScore rating lower than 7.00 across a top-flight campaign. He has played in four seasons for the Foxes and maintained a sublime level of form throughout that time, proving that he has the quality and consistency to be an excellent midfielder in the division.

Newcastle would be signing a player who knows the league and would come with a degree of certainty, as he is not a young player coming to a new country and experiencing the Premier League for the first time. He is settled in England and a proven performer on the pitch.

Guimaraes, meanwhile, has made a stunning start to his career with Newcastle. The Brazil international averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.25 in 11 starts for the club last term – scoring five goals and assisting one.

He hit the ground running for Howe’s side and can now form a dream partnership with Tielemans in the middle of the park. Both players have shown that they can consistently produce brilliant displays in the Premier League and this means that they could run games for the Toon with their combined abilities.

Crystal Palace in talks to sign Nascimento

Crystal Palace are plotting to sign highly-rated Botafogo striker Matheus Nascimento this summer and hope to complete the deal ahead of other interested clubs.

According to a recent report in Brazilian outlet Lance, the club have been in talks over a possible move for the player who has also attracted interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The Eagles hold an advantage over others because their co-owner John Textor is also a majority shareholder in Botafogo, which is likely to make any deal much easier to complete.

The technical director at the Brazilian club Andre Mazzuco told Lance that the player had been ‘offered’ the chance to continue his development in the Premier League.

However, there is the possibility of him doing the same at Lyon or Belgian club RWD Molenbeek which are also under the ownership of Textor.

Mazzuco went on to say that talks were ‘ongoing’ between the club and Palace’s sporting director Dougie Freedman who is central to the negotiations.

It’s reported that Botafogo are interested in an initial loan deal to aid his development, but a permanent deal could also be on the cards with the player having a €50m (£42m) release clause in his contract.

He’s a brute due to his tall and powerful stature and made his professional debut at the age of 16, becoming the club’s youngest player. He’s since scored eight goals in 45 senior appearances on his way to being named a “huge talent” by scout Jacek Kulig.

Now aged 18, Nascimento is a U20 international for Brazil, but because of his long-haired appearance has been likened to Uruguay’s Edinson Cavani. If he manages to become as prolific as the bushy-haired South American, then Palace would have quite the player on their hands.

The club are insistent that he follows the development plan laid out for him and rejected a £19m bid from an unnamed club last year. However, with just one year remaining on his contract, they don’t want to risk losing him for free.

He would be a great addition to Patrick Vieria’s side and could add even more energy upfront potentially replacing Christian Benteke who the club want to sell.

They could wait until next summer when he could be available for free, but with the two clubs under the same ownership, it’s unlikely that Textor would allow Palace to do that.

The Eagles need to use the advantage they have and secure him now, he’s one of Brazil’s best young talents and would be a great investment for the future.

AND in other news: Vieira must ruthlessly axe “scared” £120k-p/w Palace dud, he’s cost them too much…

Everton: Alassane Plea transfer news

Everton are considering a move for Borussia Monchengladbach forward Alassane Plea, according to French newspaper L’Equipe (via Sport Witness).

The lowdown

The Toffees have lost Richarlison, their top scorer last season, to Tottenham Hotspur, so they may be looking for a new striker to fill the void left by the Brazilian.

Plea has twice made the France squad, first in November 2018 and most recently in October 2019.

The 29-year-old is into the final year of his contract with Gladbach, who finished 10th in last season’s Bundesliga.

The latest

According to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), Plea is apparently ‘hoping’ to leave Borussia Park this summer in an attempt to improve his chances of making France’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

The player’s agent is due to fly to Germany ‘on Monday’ to ‘clarify the situation’. Everton are aware of this and are ‘following the situation closely’ with a view to potentially making an offer.

Significantly, Plea is available for ‘no more than €8million’, which equates to £6.8m. It’s thought that a move could be arranged ‘before the Bundesliga starts up again in two weeks’.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-7/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The verdict

Plea’s goalscoring return is reasonably good. He netted 10 goals last season for a mid-table outfit, also adding eight assists, while his overall record for Gladbach stands at 47 goals and 28 assists in 142 appearances.

He’s also a versatile player, capable of playing on both wings and in a more withdrawn role behind the striker.

However, perhaps the main reason that he appeals to Everton is that he’s available so cheaply as a result of his contract situation.

Transfer funds are in ‘short supply’ at Goodison Park this summer, so it’s all about Frank Lampard and co finding enough bang for their buck.
