O ex-jogador Sicupira, considerado uma das maiores figuras na história do Athletico-PR, faleceu neste domingo (7) segundo informou um comunicado do próprio Furacão através de seus canais de comunicação oficiais. Ele tinha 77 anos de idade e teve complicações por conta de uma cirurgia no pulmão feito no último mês de outubro.

Barcímio Sicupira defendeu por oito anos a camisa do rubro-negro entre o fim dos anos 60 até mais da metade da década de 70. Mais precisamente, entre 1968 e 1976, período esse onde marcou 158 gols, se consolidando como o maior artilheiro na história em marca que dura até os tempos atuais.
Por conta de questões financeiras, o atleta que também defendeu em sua carreira equipes como Ferroviário-PR, Botafogo, Botafogo-SP e Corinthians se aposentou em caráter bastante precoce com somente 31 anos de idade.
Depois disso, atuou na área de Educação Física, por conta de sua formação acadêmica, além de ter sido treinador do próprio técnico e, posteriormente, comentarista esportivo.

Recalling his “difficult journey” back to the Pakistan side, having fought through injuries and form issues, Hasan Ali has underlined the importance of the first-class grind for youngsters in their quest to play top-flight cricket.Ali missed a major chunk of international cricket between 2019 and 2020 due to multiple injuries ranging from back strain to broken ribs. But he played a key role in Central Punjab’s run to the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final. In all, he played nine games, with the best performance reserved for the final, where he made a century and picked up a five-for.He was named Player of the Series for his 43 wickets at an average of 20.06. That performance put him back on the national radar and he is back leading Pakistan to victories, most recently in the first Test against Zimbabwe in Harare.”It’s very simple: if anyone intends to play long for Pakistan and is free, he should play first-class cricket,” Hasan said after the innings and 116-run victory on Saturday. “I made my international debut in 2016 and since then until last year I didn’t get a chance to play the entire first-class season.”If you play the full long season, it will certainly help you a lot in many ways. You get to bowl longer spells with the new and old ball. It lifts your skillsets. The long spells may tire you, but eventually it prepares you for international cricket by enhancing your temperament and making you tough.”I know everyone has their own thoughts about cricket. Some like to play the shorter formats but for me, I love to play Test cricket. It’s an interesting format and it actually tests your temperament and patience in every possible way. This upswing was far from his mind when he went into oblivion two years ago, after his body nearly ditched him. He fought through injuries in his groin, back and ribs. He lost his PCB central contract, even though the PCB continue to pay him a monthly retainer from the cricketers’ welfare fund, apart from also footing his medical bills. There were talks of surgery in Australia, but Ali eventually settled for several video sessions that helped him through his rehabilitation during the pandemic last year.”There was a phase when I lost nearly everything,” Ali said looking back on the tough phase. “It was a difficult journey. I was out of cricket for nearly two years, fighting with multiple injuries but came back after getting fitter. It was a frustrating time and I used to cry. But one thing I never forgot was to try and work hard. Because that was the only thing I had in my hands.”I had one aim and that was to make a comeback so that the world will remember [me]. I had a lot to prove on my fitness and performances for my comeback. I did well and carried on the same performance in international cricket. It was the hard work that paid off.”Waqar Younis, who took over the charge as bowling coach in 2019, was one of the mentors who stood by him during the tough times. “He has this never-give-up attitude that drives him,” Waqar said of Ali.”He is mentally a strong character, otherwise what he had been through anyone could have collapsed.”With such injuries, only a strong-minded cricketer can make a comeback. In my years I too had back injuries and people thought I was done. The same thing happened with Hassan. These negative things disheartened [me] at times but when you have the attitude you can always come back. His commitment and attitude made a massive difference.”
It wouldn't quite be a transfer window without Leeds United leaving some of their business right until the death, with the Whites expected to have an extremely busy deadline day if reports are anything to go off.

Leeds trying to seal late deal for new attacker
As per an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, the second tier promotion hopefuls are still actively trying to get a deal over the line for SC Freiburg midfielder Roland Sallai to dramatically pack his bags for England.
The report suggests that Leeds will attempt to get a deal done as soon as possible for the Hungary international at the very last minute owing to fears that other clubs in Europe could try and hijack a deal, with the 27-year-old an in-demand man away from just having plenty of admirers in West Yorkshire.
Any last gasp deal will cost Leeds £10m, according to GIVEMESPORT, which doesn't feel like a ludicrous price to pay, for a man who is a fully fledged Hungary international and known to be a competent performer in the top league in Germany.
If this transfer does take place, Leeds will have a whole host of new attacking options to call from, with the likes of Largie Ramazani and Manor Solomon already in the building, alongside the fresh capture of Ao Tanaka offering the Whites more centrally.
What Sallai can offer Leeds
Both Sallai and Tanaka will be familiar with each other, having both played out in Germany for a large spell of their careers to date, with the Japan international notching up 95 appearances for Fortuna Dusseldorf, before the allure of England came calling.
Sallai is also a very experienced figure in German football, and will want to take to his new challenge in the Championship like a duck to water, having amassed impressive figures for Freiburg over a number of seasons now.

Capable of playing all across the midfield if necessary, Farke and Co will be taken aback by how versatile and adaptable Sallai can be, with goals and assists tallied up wherever he's thrown into action.
Tanaka is the same, with the Japanese gem capable of playing in a holding role alongside the likes of Ilia Gruev or Ethan Ampadu, but also more than at home playing in Joel Piroe's spot just behind the main striker, as both signings give Leeds some extra depth, ahead of what will be another gruelling push for promotion.
His major plus, away from picking up ten goals and eight assists when donning a Dusseldorf strip from 95 games to date, is his bravery and energy to go and reclaim the ball, with an impressive 5.7 ball recoveries managed last season in the Bundesliga 2 per clash.
Capable of hammering home efforts like this one when playing for his native country, with 13 strikes managed from 52 senior Hungary call-ups, both last-gasp switches would give Leeds some extra class, softening the blows of Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville exiting in the process.
Sallai might well even end up being Leeds' final bit of business across what has been a disorienting window, to say the least for Farke's men, but it would see the West Yorkshire club finish with a bang.
Bad news for Piroe: Leeds made late bid to sign "beautiful" EFL star

One of the areas in which Wolverhampton Wanderers have always had a particularly strong squad since they returned to the Premier League in 2018/19 is in midfield.
The Old Gold are currently littered with a few big names in the centre of the park, including Brazilian duo Joao Gomes and Andre, with the latter being a summer signing in 2024.
They have also had the likes of Matheus Nunes and Joao Moutinho play for the club since promotion, with the enterprising Portuguese pair having represented their national team numerous times.
However, perhaps their best midfielder since they returned to the top flight six years ago was another Portugal international, Ruben Neves.

The 27-year-old enjoyed six seasons at Molineux before making a move in the summer of 2023. He switched the Midlands for the Middle East, joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal in a deal worth around £47m.
Whilst the sale was far from Ideal for the Midlands club, they certainly made a healthy profit on the deal. The midfielder joined the club from Portuguese giants FC Porto for what was a then-record fee of £15.8m. Not only did they get years of quality service from the midfielder, but also made a healthy profit.
It was certainly a departure that rocked Molineux, given that Neves captained the Old Gold for a number of seasons. He was a pivotal figure for the club, making 253 appearances both domestically and in the Europa League in 2019/20. The 27-year-old could play everywhere in midfield, from a disciplined sitting number six to an enterprising number 10.
One thing that was synonymous with the former Porto midfielder’s time at the club was his ability to score wonder goals from range. In total, he scored nine goals from outside the box in the Premier League, as per FBref.

He is certainly a hard player to replace, and so far, the Old Gold have not found the person to fill such a big void.
However, there is one player in the academy who could be tasked with stepping into Neves’ boots, and that man is Luke Cundle.

22-year-old Cundle is a midfield prospect whom Wolves fans can certainly get excited about. He has made seven appearances for the Old Gold’s first team now and has had three Championship loans two with Swansea City and one at Plymouth Argyle.

Receiving such footballing education in the second tier can be crucial for a player; take Neves as a prime example. Whilst he was highly rated before his move to Molineux, his period in the Championship no doubt helped shape him into the player we see today.

Across his three loan spells, 77 games in total, the young midfielder has scored ten times and has registered 12 assists, playing in three different roles in the centre of the park. He has also been known to get on the scoresheet for the Wolves academy sides.
The youngster’s future is not necessarily secure, and the Potters launched another attempt to sign him over the 2024 summer window. However, he has impressed Gary O’Neil, and there is every chance he will stay and fight for his place at Molineux.
Cundle was described as a “gifted” player by former Swans boss Russel Martin, who is now managing South Coast outfit Southampton. The 22-year-old could be the dream Neves replacement, and finally fill the boots of a player whose departure left such a void at Molineux.

He has been dismissed twice in five innings and hit the most sixes. Players with poor returns Najmul Hossain Shanto, Anamul Haque and Nasir Hossain haven’t been among the runs despite playing in important positions for big clubs. Never before have the Dhaka league players seen such opulence in their accommodation, but the cricket on the field hasn’t quite matched the budget. There have been no more than two or three tight finishes. Pitches have been predictably slow at the Shere Bangla National Stadium while the drainage in the two BKSP venues hasn’t helped in the monsoon.Rain has had a lot to do with the 130-ish average scoring rate in all three venues as matches have been interrupted, reduced and abandoned in the first ten days. Batting line-ups have found themselves out of rhythm. When Dhaka has to host three matches per day from 9am to 10pm, it is clear that the BCB and the clubs are desperate to finish the tournament, rather than worry too much about the quality of cricket.The other disappointment has been the performance of teams like Gazi Group Cricketers, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Legends of Rupganj. Rupganj lost their first four matches before recovering with two wins, while Gazi Group and Dhanmondi Club have been lacklustre. This, despite all three spending big on player salaries.Paying for a bio-bubble that costs more than 7 crore takas (USD $825,000 approx.) isn’t sustainable, but Bangladesh is in the middle of a prolonged lockdown so there weren’t too many alternatives to finish what is essentially the 2019-20 DPL. وكتب محمد الدماطي عبر صفحته الشخصية بموقع التواصل الاجتماعي “فيس بوك”: “هحكي عن قصة عمري ما قلتها قبل كده.. أول مرة قعدت مع الكابتن على الانتخابات كان في يوليو 2017، كانت اللائحة الاسترشادية نزلت وأُعلن أنه هينزل انتخابات، أنا اللي بادرت بالمكالمة وعملت بريزنتيشن كاملة عن اللي نقدر نعمله في النادي، وكيفية تنمية الموارد”.
وتابع: “عملت الكلام ده وأنا مجرد مشجع بيحلم أنه يكون موجود في قائمة محمود الخطيب، المهم بعد ما خلصت قلت له: أنا شايف عشان الناس تصدق كل الوعود الانتخابية دي لازم نقول إن استاد الأهلي هيبقى صعب في المرحلة الحالية ومش هنقدر نوعد بحاجة عنه”.

وأضاف: “كان ماشي معايا طول القعدة كويس ومبسوط لحد الحتة دي، رد عليا بزعل وقال: بس ده حلم الناس كلها وحلمي أنا شخصيًا، مقدرش أبدًا أحبط الناس وإن شاء الله هنعمله”.
واختتم: “وعلى مدار السنين اللي فاتت عمره ما غاب عنه الحلم ده، وكان على طول مركز في تحقيقه، وده بيعكس قد إيه الاستاد كان الهدف الأكبر، وإن شاء الله بعد 4 سنين من النهارده يكون حاضر أول مباراة على الاستاد الجديد كرئيس للنادي الأهلي”.
