Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd now add "special" £30m player to transfer wishlist

Manchester United have added a “special” £30 million player to their transfer wishlist, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Man Utd transfer news

The Red Devils are yet to bring in a new player this month, and the chances of them doing so do remain slim, as the club need to adhere to the PSR and need to move players on before any can be brought in.

Manchester United desperately need reinforcements in attack to help Ruben Amorim’s task at Old Trafford.

However, that is not stopping the Premier League side from looking and identifying potential transfer targets for either later this month or for the summer. Signing a new striker appears to be high on the agenda for Ruben Amorim, as it was reported last week that United had sent scouts to watch striker Samu Omorodion in action for Porto the previous weekend.

As well as looking at Omorodion, there is also a possibility that United will look to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic this month. Journalist Enrico Camelio has explained that a deal is possible, but only if Joshua Zirkzee leaves Old Trafford and goes in the opposite direction. In a further update, it has been stated that the Italian side have made an official cash-plus-player offer, and both Vlahovic and Zirkzee are open to moves this month.

Adding a new striker to his team is not the only priority for Amorim, as he also wants to land a new left-back, with Nuno Mendes high on the list. Mendes and Amorim worked together at Sporting, and the pair are keen to reunite with each other, with Mendes refusing to sign a new contract at PSG.

Man Utd add "special" £30m player to transfer wishlist

Mendes is on United’s list of potential new left wingbacks, but he is not their only target, as according to Fabrizio Romano, Man United have added Patrick Dorgu to their transfer wishlist.

Dorgu, who is said to be valued at £30 million, currently plays for Italian side Lecce and has done so since July 2022 but only joined the club on a permanent basis in 2023. The defender is predominantly a left-back, but he can also play at right-back as well as further up the field if needed.

Romano has reported that the Red Devils are continuing to look at their options for a new left wingback, and they have now added Dorgu to their list. The Italian reports that Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and PSG’s Mendes are higher up the list than Dorgu, but the pair are also considered more expensive. United scouts have been monitoring Dorgu in recent months, but they will face stiff competition from Napoli, who are also keen.

Dorgu has won four caps for his national team, Denmark, but before moving into the first team, the left-back impressed his under-21 manager, Steffen Hojer, who called him special:“What’s special about him (Dorgu) is that he’s a quiet and calm guy, but things just come incredibly naturally to him on a football pitch.

“When he is put on the field, and it doesn’t matter which team, he just fits in, and he just makes an incredible number of good choices for such a young player.”

Nathan Lyon not afraid of 'bowling ugly' to earn rewards on South Asian tracks

Offspinner also talks about importance of getting rid of tailenders quickly in Test cricket

Nathan Lyon finished with 5 for 90 as Sri Lanka were restricted to 212•Associated Press

The long spells in which ball after ball lands on the same spot. Flighting it up, keeping it on a string, putting work on the ball, over after over. In Australia, maybe, but on South Asian tracks, it’s about mixing it up a little, says Nathan Lyon. Here, it’s about “bowling ugly”.Lyon claimed 5 for 90 on day one, accounting for Sri Lanka’s best batters in Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews, before dismissing Niroshan Dickwella – their highest scorer of the innings – and two lower-order batters.”I have fallen in love with the shape of the offbreak bowling in Australia,” Lyon said. “But coming to the sub-continent that phrase of ‘bowling ugly’ is something that I say to myself to make sure I am using my different variations and bowling at the right speed.”It’s about me asking different questions by different variations. Whereas in Australia I will probably stick to my strength which is my stock ball and trust in that. When you come over here you have about three or four different variations that you are able to trust and know you’re going to get some assistance off the wickets.”His first ball of the day had taken off from a length to spin past a defensive shot. And he seemed dangerous throughout all his spells.”Look at my first ball today, that was on the quicker side of things, and you saw how much that turned and bounced. Every bowler is different, but if you are able to go up and down the gears I think that’s only going to help you as a spin bowler in these conditions.”Related

Five for Lyon as spin dominates action-packed first day

Another mad Dickwella day

Lyon was instrumental in Australia taking the last four Sri Lanka wickets for 19 runs, dismissing Dickwella, Ramesh Mendis, and Lasith Embuldeniya through that period. When Dickwella and Mendis had been batting together through the course of their 54-run stand, a total of around 250 did not seem outlandish for Sri Lanka. However, they ended up 212 all out, which Lyon felt was a “massive” difference in these conditions.”We always talk of the importance of trying to knock over the tails as quick as we can and you look at the way Dickwella played, he played an incredible innings, he put the pressure right back on us as bowlers. I was really proud the way we came back after tea and stuck to our plans and we were able to get the late rewards and knock them over.”Thanks to this five-wicket haul, Lyon has now moved past Richard Hadlee on the all-time wicket-takers’ list, having taken 432 to Hadlee’s 431. He now sits 12th on that list, just behind Herath, who has just one more wicket than him.”The top end of the wicket-takers’ list – there’s some amazing names there,” Lyon said. “To overtake a few guys, and to join a few guys on whatever number that may be, is something I’m very proud of, there’s no doubt about that.”For me it’s always been about what I can do to help the Australian team. The numbers are something im proud of, but will look at in more depth at the end of my career. But that’s a long way off.”

Ipswich has already struck gold on a star who’s worth more than Philogene

We are just over the halfway point of the season, and it would be fair to say things aren’t looking too bad for Ipswich Town.

Now, it is true that Kieran McKenna’s side are sat in the relegation zone, but results have improved in recent weeks, and they are still within touching distance of safety.

Moreover, with the transfer window in full swing, the club have a chance to further strengthen the squad and bolster their chances of survival.

Ipswich Town managerKieranMcKennaapplauds fans after the match

That said, while reinforcements will undoubtedly help, we can’t imagine they’ll bring in anyone more valuable than one of their current stars, including Jadan Philogene.

Ipswich's January dealings

So, with so much on the line, there was an expectation that Ipswich would be at least somewhat active in the transfer market this month, and so far, anyway, they have been.

For example, just five days into the window, Atalanta defender Ben Godfrey joined the club on loan until the end of the season, and while he struggled to make an impact in Serie A, this could prove to be a brilliant deal.

The former Everton ace has 112 Premier League appearances to his name, two England caps and can play across the backline and even in defensive midfield if needed.

With that said, while the York-born defender will undoubtedly add some more solidity to the Tractor Boys, he won’t add much excitement, at least not as much as the club’s second addition, Jaden Philogene.

It took a little while for the deal to be officially completed, but it was finally announced on Wednesday afternoon that he had joined Ipswich for around £20m.

It’s certainly a lot of money to spend on a player with just 334 minutes of top-flight football to his name, but considering he racked up a brilliant haul of 12 goals and six assists in just 32 Championship appearances for Hull City last season, it could prove a wise investment a few years from now.

That said, there is a current Ipswich star who spent time with the Tigers last season, someone worth considerably more than £20m.

The Ipswich star worth millions more than Philogene

So, to get straight to the point, it will come as no surprise that the player we are talking about is, of course, Liam Delap.

The former Manchester City prospect, who also cost £20m in the summer, is now worth up to €41.3m according to Football Transfers, which converts to about £34.77m, or £14.77m more than Philogene is set to cost.

Now, while that is undoubtedly a lot of money, it could be argued that the Englishman should be worth even more, as so far this season, he has been utterly spectacular.

For example, even though he is playing for a relegation-threatened team and had limited top-flight experience prior, the incredible “one-man battering ram,” as dubbed by Opta Analyst, has scored eight goals and provided two assists in just 21 appearances, totalling 1553 minutes.

That means that the 21-year-old phenom is currently averaging a goal involvement every other game, or every 155.3minutes, which, again, for a team battling down in the relegation zone is simply sublime.

Ultimately, there can be no debate over Ipswich’s best player this season, and should they manage to keep themselves up, the sky is the limit for Delap’s future valuation.

Contudo, o time esteve longe do ideal no primeiro tempo e não conseguiu incomodar o goleiro adversário.

George Hill six-for stuns Lancashire after Keaton Jennings makes Roses history

Change of ball precipitates home side’s collapse from security of 231 for 1

Paul Edwards05-Sep-2022

Keaton Jennings leaves the field after scoring 119•Lancashire CCC

Lancashire 272 for 8 (Jennings 119, Wells 84, Hill 6-26) vs YorkshireFrom one perspective, the Roses match has become a little shop-soiled this season. This, after all, is the sixth game between Lancashire and Yorkshire since mid-May and some of those sitting in the Emirates Old Trafford pavilion this afternoon could have told you that Lancashire have triumphed in three of them whereas Yorkshire have won none. For many others, Luke Wells and Keaton Jennings’ 180-run first-wicket stand counted for rather more than those victories in the Vitality Blast and the Royal London Cup because the runs were scored in the format that is the best test of a cricketer.Such divergent preferences are among the more benevolent reflections of cricket’s capacity to be shaped as time and structure require. They illustrate the richness of a game that is not simple and will never be made so, no matter how much advertising guff is thrown at it. Less than 72 hours before this match began, Tom Hartley and Matt Parkinson were skeltering around Lord’s and trying to bowl four overs as cheaply as possible. Over the next three days they will be charged with trying to dismiss Yorkshire twice on a pitch that should take spin. That plan and Dane Vilas’s decision to bat first were predicated partly on the home team’s ability to compile a substantial total and by the start of the evening session the confident belief was that Lancashire would amass so substantial a first-innings score that they might only have to bat once in a match for which they had selected two specialist spinners plus Wells. That conviction was strengthened as Jennings and Josh Bohannon added another fifty runs with Jennings becoming the first player in the honoured history of these games to make four centuries in consecutive innings. At 231 for 1, therefore, everything was more or less tickety-boo for Lancashire. Yet an hour or so later, tickety could hardly be glimpsed and boo was nowhere to be found. It all began when Bohannon cut Dom Bess into a puddle that was lying on the covers. That, of course, necessitated a ball change yet the oldest ball in the box offered to the umpires still had its gold lettering on it. Jennings would later say that he could see it “kick and zip” off the surface, so it was not surprising that the medium-pacer George Hill, who had earlier dismissed Wells for 84, was not bemoaning the change. Instead he seized the replacement ball and took five wickets for five runs in 41 deliveries to finish the day with 6 for 26, his best figures in any cricket, including school matches at Sedbergh, club games anywhere else and imaginary Tests in the back garden.George Hill celebrates success with the ball•Getty Images

Jennings, whose straight driving had been a delight, was bowled for 119 when he played fractionally across the line and lost his middle stump. Bohannon, having made 27, drove Hill to short extra-cover where the debutant Fin Bean took a low catch. Vilas fell for 2 to a brilliant one-handed effort by Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who dived to his left from first slip to complete the dismissal.Far more conventional snares by Kohler-Cadmore accounted for Steven Croft and George Balderson in the space of five balls and helped Hill complete his maiden five-wicket return in first-class cricket – his previous best had been 2 for 21 – and the session ended with yet more success for Yorkshire as Hartley and Tom Bailey fell to successive deliveries from Ben Coad. For a Yorkshire team still threatened with relegation Hill’s spell was greeted with a measure of delight that increased with every success. Before the ball was changed Jonny Tattersall’s players might have been anticipated facing a score in excess of 400 and their mood can hardly have been improved by the blow on the nose Adam Lyth received from a full-blooded clip to leg by Steven Croft which caused the opener to be led from the field. Deep in the evening session all the talk was of Jennings’ achievement in following his scores of 114, 132 and 238 with a fourth century and thus eclipsing Geoff Pullar and Herbert Sutcliffe, both of whom made three successive centuries in Roses games. Yet as Hill led his colleagues off the field he surely knew that the game is now evenly poised and that he was the player who had made it so.
