دافع المدير الفني لفريق مانشستر سيتي، بيب جوارديولا، باستماتة عن موسمهم، بعدما تعرضوا للكثير من الانتقادات خاصة مع عدم حسمهم التأهل إلى دوري أبطال أوروبا، قبل مباراتين من النهاية.

ويخوض مانشستر سيتي مباراته في بطولة الدوري الإنجليزي مساء الغد ضد بورنموث على ملعب “الاتحاد” في الجولة السابعة والثلاثين.

ويحتل مانشستر سيتي حاليًا المركز السادس في جدول الدوري الإنجليزي، برصيد 65 نقطة، حيث ينافس نيوكاسل يونايتد، تشيلسي، أستون فيلا ونوتينجهام فورست على التأهل إلى دوري أبطال أوروبا.

وعانى مانشستر سيتي من موسم كارثي حيث فشل في التتويج بأي لقب، وخسر يوم السبت الماضي نهائي كأس الاتحاد الإنجليزي أمام كريستال بالاس.

ورغم ذلك، فإن جوارديولا يرى أن مانشستر سيتي توج بكأس الدرع الخيرية، قبل بداية الموسم على حساب مانشستر يونايتد، على العكس من أندية أخرى لم تفز بأي شئ.

وقال جوارديولا، في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “مترو” الإنجليزية: “قدمنا نهائيًا رائعًا، ولكن لم يكن ذلك كافيًا من أجل الفوز به، لدينا آخر مباراتين في الدوري، نحتاج إلى 4 نقاط من أجل التأهل إلى دوري أبطال أوروبا، وهذا يكفي، على الجميع إدراك ذلك”.

وأضاف: “بكل تأكيد التأهل مهم، ولكن بالنسبة لفرق أخرى، باستثناء نيوكاسل الذي فاز بكأس الرابطة، وليفربول فاز بالدوري الإنجليزي، ومانشستر سيتي فاز بالدرع الخيري، في حين لم تفز الفرق الأخرى بالألقاب”.

وواصل: “هناك فرق أخرى مثل تشيلسي بالطبع يمكنها الفوز بلقب هذا الموسم (دوري المؤتمر الأوروبي)، وكذلك مانشستر يونايتد وتوتنهام اللذان يتنافسان في نهائي الدوري الأوروبي، تتوقع جميع الفرق الأخرى التأهل إلى دوري أبطال أوروبا لأنه مهم لكل نادٍ يشارك في هذه البطولة العام المقبل”.

ولم يكشف جوارديولا بشكل مباشر الفريق التي يسخر من كونها لم تفز بأي ألقاب هذا الموسم، ولكن يمكن القول أن أبرزها آرسنال، الذي نافس ليفربول على لقب الدوري الإنجليزي قبل تراجعه في الجولات الأخيرة، بخلاف خروجه من دوري أبطال أوروبا من نصف النهائي.

The 21-year-old did miss the start of the season with a broken foot, but since returning, Slot has been easing him back, with substitute appearances in the Premier League and starts in cup competitions.

The youngster joined from Fulham back in the 2019/20 season, being an extremely highly rated teenager at the time. His value quickly skyrocketed, going from a €4.00m (£3.3m) player to a €22.00m (£18.4m) player in the span of two years, spending time with Blackburn on loan – as per Transfermarkt.

According to Transfermarkt, Elliott is now worth €35m (£29.2m), having stagnated at this value since September 2022, having a brief dip in December 2023, before returning to the same value.

This £29.2m valuation is higher than the French attacking midfielder being linked to the club, begging the question of whether Liverpool really need him.

When comparing the two players’ metrics – having used Cherki’s from this season and Elliott’s from last season due to minutes played – you can see Cherki outperforms Elliot in all but two areas, the Englishman having a higher shot volume and completing more passes into the final third, thus showing his willingness to drop deep and link play.

Elliott was labelled “elite” for a performance against Newcastle back in 2022 by Statman Dave on X, with a midfield performance orchestrating play, completing long passes, making ball recoveries and completing dribbles in the final third.

Whilst Cherki has perhaps shown a higher level thus far, Elliott has shown his potential already playing in the Premier League, and given more trust and responsibility, Elliott could go to the next level, taking the creative burden as a playmaker in this Liverpool side, which would see his underlying numbers spike.

Além disso, o profissional também analisou o momento do time, que não vence há três jogos no Brasileirão (empatou com o América-MG, e perdeu para Coritiba e Goiás). Ele agradeceu o apoio da torcida no Nilton Santos, disse que nada mudou com tropeço e pediu paciência.

Rejecting the offer with such little time remaining to find a viable replacement, Guehi may not be the only star man who Crystal Palace face a battle to keep when the summer arrives.

According to reports in Spain, Barcelona are now plotting a move to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta this summer and see the forward as a less complicated option on the spending front as well as one who could replace Robert Lewandowski.

Whether Crystal Palace agree with that verdict on the economical front remains to be seen, however, given that they remained unmoved by Spurs’ late big-money attempts to lure Guehi away from South London.

Should they remain just as stubborn in the face of Barcelona’s chase of Mateta, then Palace may yet keep hold of their star striker this summer.

"Amazing" Mateta is more important than ever

If Barcelona come calling this summer, then Palace should do everything in their power to turn the Spaniards down amid Metata’s growing importance. The 27-year-old is at the peak of his powers and last summer’s move to sign Eddie Nketiah seemingly only spurred him on to make the starting role his own and prove that he is the best option for Glasner at Selhurst Park.

After scoring twice in a 2-0 victory over Manchester United last time out, Mateta was at the centre of his Glasner’s praise. The Austrian told reporters: “We don’t always talk because he knows what we demand of him. With his two goals today, he is amazing in the box.

“He has the feeling that a number nine must have in the box. He makes so many runs where he doesn’t get the ball. You need to suffer as a striker because you make so many runs where you don’t get the ball. He gets the reward and it decides the game for us.”

With six goals in his last five Premier League games, Mateta is once again the man of the moment for Crystal Palace.

Christopher Nkunku, who was reliably believed to be pursuing a Stamford Bridge exit in the January transfer window (Florian Plettenberg), is Maresca’s only real option in that area of the pitch.

On paper, the £195,000-per-week forward is hardly a bad choice, having scored 13 goals in all competitions this season, but even Palmer’s presence as a false nine against Fabian Hurzerler’s side couldn’t quite inspire Nkunku’s best form.

While Maresca backs the Frenchman as a solution to Jackson and Guiu’s absences, Chelsea’s boss insists that he isn’t their only point of call.

“Because of Nico and Marc’s situation, we are working and trying to find different solutions,” said Maresca on Chelsea’s striker shortage.

“Christo could be one of the solutions, but it’s not the only solution. It can be Christo, as he played the last game, and also different kind of players. For sure when you don’t have a proper nine who can be a threat always, you have to change not only the nine, also a little bit the way you want to play.

“I have said many times I consider Christo a very important player, and I have said since day one Christo is not a nine. Christo is an attacking midfielder, but we use him as a nine to find a solution.

“Christo is a completely different player to Nico on and off the ball, so we probably need to adjust something because the skills of the players are different.”

Ahead of the next Premier League campaign, co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, who oversee Chelsea’s recruitment strategy, will be looking to ensure that Maresca isn’t left in such a precarious position when it comes to centre-forwards at his disposal.

One of their top targets, according to various reports, is Ipswich Town star Liam Delap.

The English striker has scored 10 goals this season, which comes as impressive when factoring in that they’ve been for a relegation-threatened side, and he’s reliably believed to be turning heads in west London.

Reporter Simon Phillips has claimed that Chelsea have already laid the groundwork to sign Delap, and could seek to strike a deal before this year’s Club World Cup. CaughtOffside now have another update on the 22-year-old’s future, which involves Maresca’s personal stance on the player.

The outlet reports that Chelsea are in pole position to sign Delap, above the likes of Man United, and Maresca believes that the former Man City starlet is a valuable number nine to have at their disposal.

Delap would also apparently cost around £40 million, which is actually cheaper than other mooted figures.
