Worcestershire seamer Matt Mason has announced his retirement from competitive cricket with immediate effect, citing his long-standing shoulder injury as the reason behind his decision.”It is with a great deal of pride and more than a hint of sadness that I have decided to retire from cricket with immediate effect,” read a statement released by Mason. “The ongoing battle I have had with my shoulder, since a major operation in 2008, has finally taken its toll and has brought about this decision.Originally from Western Australia, where he started his career in 1996-97, Mason, 37, joined Worcestershire in 2001. He took 314 first-class wickets for them, and 318 overall, at an average of 26.91 and defied the years to help them to promotion in 2010 with 31 Championship wickets at 27.38.”I have had a career with Worcestershire that I am extremely proud of, and to try and extend it further while battling with injury would only do myself, my team-mates, and all our loyal supporters a great disservice,” continued Mason.”Worcestershire is a very special cricket club, run and supported by very special people, and I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my Worcestershire playing career.”To the team-mates I have shared the field with a huge thank you to you, and I would also like to say a special thank you to Steve Rhodes for his constant encouragement and support particularly in recent seasons. India led by 240 runs with seven wickets remaining at the end of the fourth day, and though Gibson said West Indies would aim to bowl India out on the fifth day, he also had some hope that West Indies’ frailties with the bat through the series may actually encourage India to make a daring declaration.”We need to hope to bowl them out and see if there is a possibility of a run-chase,” Gibson said. “The way we have batted, they might still think they can win the match and give us an opportunity.”If they are generous, they might give us a target. It could be an interesting last day. We bowled them out for 200 in the first innings and couldn’t get those runs in our innings. They might think they have enough. We tried to chase 300 in Jamaica and though we fell short by 63 runs we did well at the start of that chase. We’ve got to believe that our batsmen will come good at some point. If there is a chase tomorrow the batsmen might be spurred to perform.”The opener Lendl Simmons’ performance has come in for criticism. Only one day of this Test match has been played, but already, there have been four small victories for Zimbabwe.The first was achieved before the game had even started when four, eager young men were given their first Test caps. Tinotenda Mawoyo, Craig Ervine, Kyle Jarvis and Brian Vitori lined up like schoolboys, hands behind the backs, blazers perfectly tailored and fitted, those with hair had it neatly combed and there was excitement in all eight eyes. In front of them, the chief executive of the ICC, Haroon Lorgat, was waiting to congratulate them, having made the trip to Zimbabwe especially to witness the country’s return to Test cricket first hand.That in all the strife that has engulfed the country in recent years, they were able to produce four players capable of donning Test caps, two black, two white, showing the gap that has been bridged in cricket if not elsewhere, is a significant achievement. That one of them went on to bat with assurance and poise is something that the word victory doesn’t quite encapsulate. It’s just fantastic. Mawoyo showed why he was deserving of his debut with an accomplished 43, a just reward after battling a persistent hamstring injury in recent months.”I am definitely proud,” Brendan Taylor, Zimbabwe captain said. “He’s a guy that’s really guts it out and has batted long periods. I know he will be disappointed with getting in and then getting out but knowing the kind of guy that he is, he will come back stronger in the second innings.”The second triumph was in the way Zimbabwe approached the first day’s task. All the talk about the pitch was that it was, beyond doubt, a win-the-toss-and-bowl surface. What a mockery they made of that notion. A situation that could have disintegrated into a panic pot was handled with responsibility and authority as Mawoyo and Vusi Sibanda scored quickly but carefully in the morning session.They weren’t rattled by Shafiul Islam’s accuracy or over excited by Robiul Islam’s inconsistency. He will start tomorrow needing just 12 runs to reach a second Test century.Some of the journalists at the press conference reminded him that he has never been able to push on for 100 in the past, when being unbeaten overnight. Masakadza’s response showed that he cared about more than a collective cause and not doing anything to put that in jeopardy.”The thought [of getting to 100] crossed my mind a little bit when I was on 85 and there was still time in the day,” Masakadza said. “But when I saw the way Brendan was playing I thought it was better to just to see out the day and come back tomorrow only two down so that it didn’t put pressure on the guys coming in behind me.”The fourth truimph comes in the wonderful blend of ambition and humility that the Zimbabwe players carry with them. In years to come that may change, but for now it remains their most likeable trait.As far as objectives go, Taylor is already looking at a total that could well bat Bangladesh out of the match. “We’ll look to bat deep into tomorrow and put up to a total that makes it very difficult for the Bangladeshis to come back into the game,” he said. That total should be “nothing less than 450” and then comes the slight reticence, “but that’s still around 200 runs away.”The game plan tomorrow will be to continue building their house and not risking anything that may tear it down. “Hopefully Hamilton and myself can come in and bat the first session out and leave it up to our bigger hitters to come in from the middle order and add some runs,” Taylor said. He switched effortlessly from professional to pleasant acquaintance and went on recommended a local steakhouse to a few reporters who were looking for somewhere to experience an African dining experience.With all the focus on Zimbabwe’s showing, Bangladesh may feel as though they have no feats of their own to talk about after day one, and they wouldn’t be far wrong. A weary Shakib al Hasan said he expected more after putting Zimbabwe in to bat. “We thought that in the first two hours there will be some help for the bowlers,” he said. “I don’t think our bowlers bowled in good areas consistently, they bowled some good balls but not consistently enough.”He goes into the second day with only a simple piece of instruction for his bowlers: “I’d like them to bowl as straight as they can, to try to hit on the wicket every time they come and bowl, that’s why I have set a straight field.” He thinks that will be only way Bangladesh will get anywhere close to a victory of any sort because, “on that wicket, although it is flat, if you can’t bowl straight you are supposed to get hit.”

O melhor lance do Criciúma no primeiro tempo aconteceu no minuto 21, quando Aranha se enrolou no recuo de bola e quase entregou o gol. Aproveitando a falha do goleiro, Zé Carlos pressionou e ganhou a posse dentro da área, mas errou o chute na hora de marcar.

JOGO TRUNCADO E NERVOSO
A volta para o segundo tempo trouxe um Avaí mais enérgico dentro de campo. O Criciúma seguiu apostando nos contra-ataques e levando perigo com Zé Carlos, já o Avaí apostava nas laterais e cruzamentos na área. O jogo truncado no meio de campo fez com que as boas chances demorassem a aparecer.

PÊNALTI DECIDE A PARTIDA
Quando o Criciúma estava melhor na partida, o árbitro assinalou pênalti após a bola bater na mão de Betão. Zé Carlos cobrou a penalidade com categoria e abriu o placar na Ressacada. André Moritz e Feijão ainda foram expulsos antes do apito final. Foi o último lance de emoção da partida, que garantiu a primeira vitória do Tigre na Série B.

The PCB has replaced former coach Intikhab Alam as Pakistan’s team manager for the tour of Zimbabwe. Intikhab was appointed manager in October 2010 ahead of the series against South Africa in UAE. Taking his position is Naveed Akram Cheema, a member of the PCB’s governing board. Assistant coach Aaqib Javed and assistant manager Shahid Aslam have also been left out of the Zimbabwe touring party.”Changing the manager is not performance related,” Subhan Ahmed, the PCB’s chief operating officer, told . “We appoint a manager on a series by series basis. Intikhab is also head of the development programme at the National Cricket Academy and wants to devote more time to the ongoing programmes. Cheema is a member of the governing board, so he has been appointed manager for the Zimbabwe series.”Intikhab also said his focus was now on working on the development of the game at the academy level. “We have started several programmes in the country which many upcoming players are attending. The Under-16s talent-hunt programme is underway in more than 45 districts throughout Pakistan and we are working on some more programmes for the winter. While I have enjoyed working as team manager, I need to dedicate more time to the programmes in our academies.”Cheema had accompanied Pakistan A on their tour of the West Indies last year and he is the managing director of the country’s largest power supply corporation – Water and Power Development Corporation. He said he would ask Intikhab for advice to help the team. “I will be seeking advice from my predecessor Intikhab Alam, who is also a dear friend,” he said. “Our collective aim is to ensure that the team do well on the tour and that there is harmony and unity among the squad members.”Intikhab’s tenure as manager coincided with a difficult time for Pakistan cricket. During the series against South Africa, wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider fled to the UK, later claiming he was threatened by bookmakers. Earlier this year, following Pakistan’s return from the Caribbean, Shahid Afridi was removed as ODI captain and he responded by retiring “conditionally” from international cricket. Intikhab, in his tour report, acknowledged a rift between coach Waqar Younis and Afridi. He described Afridi as a “highly hyper-active personality who lacks [the] temperament to listen to other people’s point of views or look for solutions for the betterment of the team.”The ICC’s Pakistan Task Team (PTT) in its recommendations to the ICC and the PCB, including ways to improve governance of cricket in Pakistan, questioned Intikhab’s multiple roles in the board. In addition to being the team manager at the time the report was submitted, Intikhab was also the chairman of the cricket committee, director of game development and a governing board member.
