Steve Waugh, the former Australia captain and a member of the Argus review panel, has questioned the selection circumstances around Ricky Ponting’s appointment as stand-in for Michael Clarke in Friday’s triangular series ODI at the SCG.Pointing to David Warner’s place as the ODI vice-captain, Waugh wondered why the opening batsman had not been elevated to the captaincy for the one match, while Clarke recovers from a hamstring strain.”Ricky will do it blindfolded, but the future is probably Dave Warner so I’m surprised they didn’t go to Warner and go to the future,” Waugh said in Sydney on Tuesday. “It’s only a temporary thing, you put Dave Warner in there as vice-captain … I assume they think he is leadership material. If he’s vice-captain why can’t he captain the side as well? Maybe they think Dave’s not quite ready but why is he vice-captain? It doesn’t make sense to me.”Waugh also queried the status of Brad Haddin, who was ostensibly rested for the start of the series but remains out of the side while Matthew Wade gets comfortable as the team’s limited overs gloveman. Part of the Argus review’s directives were to enhance communication and clarity between the selectors and the players, and Waugh appeared doubtful if that could currently be the case.”I was surprised when they said [Haddin] was rested. He basically said he was dropped,” Waugh said. “There’s mixed messages there. If he’s rested, why doesn’t he come back in and be the captain? He’s the vice-captain of the Test side, so there was the opportunity for maybe Brad to captain the one-day team. But obviously, he’s having an enforced rest. I’m not sure what it is but it’s a bit confusing and it would be good for someone to clear it up.”For his part, Haddin seems resigned to the fact that he is now the first-choice wicketkeeper for Test matches only, and has geared his training patterns to playing out the Sheffield Shield season for New South Wales before heading to the Caribbean as the gloveman for three Tests.”I’m still out of the one day team and I can see no reason for that to change,” Haddin told Sky Sports Radio. “I’m pretty comfortable where it’s at, all my training over the last week or so has been to make sure I’m ready for the four-day cricket and the Test matches in the West Indies. I can’t be sitting around waiting for my phone to ring to play one day cricket again, my job now is to make sure I’m up and running and where I need to be for the Test series.”Haddin was also supportive of Wade’s continued retention as the ODI ‘keeper, a position the Victorian has filled with some aplomb, particularly with his punchy batting at the top of the order.”The bits I’ve seen he’s made a pretty good transition into the one-day team, he’s playing with a bit of energy and from what I’ve seen, I see no reason why you should move him,” Haddin said, before reiterating his confidence that he remained the Test wicketkeeper of choice. “I can see no reason why that [staying Test ‘keeper] should change. We had a successful Test summer, apart from our little hiccup against New Zealand in Hobart, so I can see no reason why that should change.”

His manager Aaron Klee released a statement on Thursday saying Ryder had pulled out of Wellington’s squad for their next Plunket Shield match, against Northern Districts starting Friday, and had not decided when he would make himself available again.Ryder had been training with the Wellington squad but has withdrawn from the team after a joint decision by him, Klee, Karen Nimmo – the clinical psychologist he works with – and New Zealand Cricket Players Association chief executive Heath Mills.”We hope that Jesse will be available for Wellington selection again in the coming weeks, but it would be imprudent of me to try and put an exact date on this,” Klee said.Ryder was dropped from New Zealand’s squad for the third one-day international against South Africa after he and teammate Doug Bracewell broke team protocol by going out at night when injured and getting involved in an argument with someone at a hotel. O Palmeiras iniciou nesta segunda-feira a preparação para o jogo de quarta, contra o Botafogo, no Allianz Parque. Enquanto os titulares na partida contra o Vitória, no último domingo, ficaram apenas na parte interna da Academia de Futebol para trabalhos regenerativos, os demais atletas foram a campo para um treino que teve coletivo em campo reduzido, movimentações de ataque e repetições de cruzamento e finalizações.

O grande destaque da atividade foi o lateral-direito Lucas Minele, de apenas 19 anos. Contratado após 11 anos na base do Corinthians, o ala só não fez chover pela direita e chegou até mesmo a irritar os demais companheiros. Durante o coletivo, deu passe de letra, girou em cima da bola em lindo drible e deu até uma caneta em Diogo Barbosa. O lance, inclusive, gerou irritação em Borja. O colombiano dividiu duas bolas com o garoto de maneira ríspida e fechou a cara.

Contratado em julho pelo Verdão, Minele tem vínculo de três meses com o clube, com possibilidade de renovação por mais um ano. Na atividade, atuou no coletivo ao lado de Fernando Prass, Nico Freire, Pedrão, Hélio, Gabriel Furtado, Vitinho e Papagaio. Matheus e Gabriel (ambos de sobrenome Barbosa) foram os outros do sub-20 a participarem do treinamento sob os olhares do técnico Felipão.

Minele ouviu duras também de Felipe Melo. Mesmo em campo, durante a atividade de movimentação de ataque, o volante chamou a atenção do garoto para lhe passar a bola na perna direita e não na esquerda. Dono de uma batida firme, o jovem ala mostrou bom cruzamento e teve bom aproveitamento na atividade.

O time sem colete foi formado por Jailson, Mayke, Antônio Carlos, Edu Dracena, Diogo Barbosa, Felipe Melo, Willian, Artur e Borja. Com desconforto muscular, Jean apareceu no gramado para faz trabalhos específicos. Já Gustavo Scarpa deu sequência ao tratamento de sua inflamação do calcanhar direito.

O Palmeiras volta a treinar na tarde desta terça-feira, também na Academia de Futebol, quando Felipão deve definir quem mandará a campo na quarta. A tendência é que o treinador opte por força máxima no jogo a ser disputado no Allianz Parque.

Do dia 7 ao 26 de setembro, a Casa França-Brasil, no Centro do Rio de Janeiro, receberá a exposição “Flamengo: História de uma paixão”. Com fotografias, vídeos, oficinas de arte, debates e espaço destinado ao torcedor, a mostra – com curadoria de Nelson Ricardo Martins, realização do clube e produção da Fase 10 Ação Contemporânea – ocupará todas salas do museu em homenagem ao Rubro-Negro,com um recorte da trajetória da fundação até os dias de hoje.

-A exposição se constitui em uma iniciativa inédita, uma vez que, nunca se ocupou um grande centro cultural da cidade trazendo a história de um clube carioca – explica o curador Nelson Ricardo Martins.

Serão expostos, por exemplo, quatro painéis com 4 metros de largura e 2,5 metros de altura, que ficarão no salão principal, com cerca de 170 fotos e vídeos contando a história do Flamengo. Uma arquibancada estilizada será transformada em espaço de convivência. Em frente à arquibancada haverá um telão com imagens da torcida e gols emblemáticos.

Na exposição, os torcedores terão uma participação especial, através de figuras icônicas da torcida rubro-negra, como “Anjinho”, “Pânico”, “Valderrama” e “Dona Zica”, entre outros. Apaixonado pelo Flamengo e um dos maiores protagonistas da cultura nacional nos últimos anos, o cineasta Luiz Carlos Barreto, que em 2018 fez 90 anos, ganhará uma área com seu nome, onde serão projetadas dezenas de fotos que mostrarão a sua trajetória.

Os anônimos também terão seu espaço. Na “Sala da Paixão” haverá um imenso painel branco onde os torcedores poderão deixar frases, poemas ou desenhos para o time do coração. Nesta área também serão organizados encontros com professores e estudiosos sobre o esporte como ferramenta de inserção dos jovens de comunidades e periferias da cidade.

Com a presença do curador, historiadores, atletas ou rubro-negros ilustres, as visitas guiadas serão realizadas em diferentes horários, tanto para o público em geral quanto para estudantes de escolas públicas e particulares. Haverá ainda, durante a programação, oficinas de caricaturas. Estão sendo organizadas também mesas-redondas, debates e seminário.

A exposição também falará de futuro do clube da Gávea. Em uma área exclusiva, os visitantes terão a oportunidade, em primeira mão, de conhecer o projeto do novo museu do Flamengo e, ainda, estar próximo a taça Salutaris, que premiou o Flamengo, em 1927, como o clube Mais Querido do Brasil.

A visitação da mostra “Flamengo: História de uma paixão” na Casa França-Brasil acontecerá de terça a sábado, das 10h às 20, e, aos domingo, das 10h às 19h.

Legspinner Odean Brown picked up a five-wicket haul as CCC lost their last five wickets for only 23 runs.CCC had a chance to put Jamaica under pressure after bowling them out for 200 on the first day. Medium-pacers Jason Dawes and Jason Holder had taken three wickets each to inflict the damage. However, CCC failed to capitalise and crashed to 137 all out.
